Billy Joe Johns, 86, of Bates City, Missouri passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at St. Mary's Manor in Blue Springs, MO surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at the First Christian Church, 224 W. Dryden St., Odessa, MO, 64076 with Reverend Jason Thornton officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Higginsville City Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Homes For Our Troops, 6 Main St., Taunton, MA 02780 or the Odessa First Christian Church. Billy Joe was born on July 12, 1929 in Higginsville, MO to Paul and Rosa (Krohm) Johns. He graduated from Higginsville High School in 1949. Billy Joe was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Billy Joe was Honorably Discharged on September 12, 1953. On October 4, 1954 he married Doris (Fortner) Johns in Higginsville, MO who survives of the home. He retired from Bendix as a Machinist after 34 years. Billy Joe was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, Local Lodge 778 in Kansas City, MO. Billy Joe also farmed and raised Herford Cattle. He was a member of the First Christian Church and served as an Elder Emeritus and Sunday School Teacher. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Billy Joe enjoyed woodworking and helping in 4-H.

In addition to his wife Doris, Billy Joe is survived by four children, Teresa Johns of Liberty, MO, Jerry Johns and wife Mindy of Blue Springs, MO, Steve Johns and wife Ruth Bates City, MO, and Cindy Guptill and husband Rick, Gladstone, MO; thirteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren; One brother Richard Johns and wife Patty of Holt, MO; three sisters, Dorothy Anderson of Higginsville, MO, Faye Redhage and husband William of Mayview, MO and Wanda McCormack of Mayview, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

Billy Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
