Dorothy E. Thompson, 92, Lexington, passed away at Riverbend Heights Nursing Home in Lexington on Oct. 14, 2015.
Dorothy Elizabeth Fairchild was born on Sept. 26, 1923 to Grover C. Fairchild and Frances Kavanaugh Fairchild in Warrensburg.
Dorothy attended school in Warrensburg graduating from the University High School and later earned a B.A. degree in Art from what is now known as University of Central Missouri also in Warrensburg. She was a member of The First Christian Church in Lexington until it dissolved.
She married Walker C. Thompson in August of 1949 and they moved to Lexington in 1953 where she lived the remainder of her life. She later earned a B.S. in education from UCM and taught at the Leslie bell Elementary School for several years. She also did home visits for Head Start, was employed several years in the Quartermaster Department at Wentworth Military Academy, and worked at Thompson’s Music Store in Lexington.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Jeffrey C. Thompson.
She is survived by a daughter, Julie Hancock, Pleasant Hill and one son, Bruce Thompson of Olathe, Kan., a grandson, Matthew Thompson, San Diego, CA.
Memorials are suggested to the Breast Cancer Awareness or the Leukemia Association.
There will be no visitation or public service and after cremation her ashes will be interred next to her husband and son at Lexington Memory Gardens.
