Edward Wesley Schumacher, Jr., 79, of Lexington, Missouri passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Grace Lutheran Church, 806 S. Bus. Hwy 13, Lexington, MO, 64067. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 S. St., Lexington, MO, 64067, 660-259-2245. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Sunset Hill Cemetery in Warrensburg, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Lutheran Church or the Minutemen Athletic Booster Club in Lexington. Edward was born on March 28, 1938 in Wellington, MO to Edward Wesley Schumacher, Sr. and Minerva E. (Graupner) Schumacher. He graduated in 1956 from Lexington High School and later graduated with his Associates Degree from Wentworth Military College. Ed served in the United States Army from 1956 until he was honorably discharged in 1959. On August 24, 1961 he married Marilyn Joyce (Spence) Schumacher in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home. Ed retired from the United States Postal Service in 2000 after 26 years of service. He also was a carpenter part-time. Ed was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington and served as an Elder and Trustee for many years. He served on the Lexington School Board for 12 years and one of his most memorable accomplishments was getting the bond issue passed to build the middle school. He is a 2017 Inductee of the Minutemen Athletic Hall of Fame. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, Ed was involved in many aspects of the community and youth athletics.

Survivors include Ed’s wife, Marilyn Schumacher of Lexington, MO; two children, Kimala Dawn Small and husband Mike of Bates City, MO and Scott Edward Schumacher and wife Lynn of Lexington, MO; a son-in-law, Jeffrey Leslie of Girard, KS; grandchildren, Molly Adams and husband Taylor of Council Groves, KS, Katlyn Aikins and husband Kevin of Wichita, KS, MaCahla Leslie of Girard, KS, Abby Small of Bates City, MO, Sarah, Lainie and Ashley Schumacher all of Lexington, MO; one great grandson, Connor Aikins of Wichita, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Ed was preceded in death by a daughter, Kamala Diane Leslie; one sister, Shirley Louise Stoll; a step-brother, James Huffman and a step-sister, Mary Frances Osburn.
