Howard “Obie” Charles Oberhelman, 92, of Wellington, Missouri passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Odessa, MO.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home, 1720 S. St., Lexington, MO, 64067, 660-259-2245 with Reverend Herman Hudson, Jr. officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Obie was born on 6/3/23 in Wellington, MO to Alfred Henry and Selma Elizabeth (Riesmeyer) Oberhelman. Obie graduated from Lexington High School in 1941. On November 12, 1942 Obie enlisted in the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged on December 17, 1945. He served in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 134 in Wellington, MO. He married Beverly Jean (Jones) Oberhelman on August 26, 1944 in Norman, Oklahoma. After 63 years of marriage, on July 27, 2007 she preceded him in death. After 30 plus years, Obie retired from Skelgas Propane Service. He was a member of the St. Paul Church in Napoleon, MO. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed crafting stained glass and flying. One of Obie’s more recent memorable flights was when he was selected to accompany fellow veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Oberhelman and wife Leona of Wellington, MO and Dennis Oberhelman and wife Donna of Napoleon, MO; 2 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 6 nieces and 1nephew.

In addition to his parents and wife, Obie was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Derus and Helen Hair
