Reverend Kenneth (Kenny) Dwayne Bass, 59, of Odessa, Missouri departed this life on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 7995 Outer Rd., Odessa, MO, 64076, with Reverend Everett Hannon officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2015 at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, 306 S. 2nd St., Odessa, MO, 64076, 816-633-5524. Burial will be in the Odessa Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Heart of America Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W 75th St, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Kenny was born on December 7, 1955 to the union of Harold B. Bass and Clara Jean (Cahill) Bass at Lexington Hospital in Lexington, Missouri. He graduated from Odessa R-7 High School in 1974 and went on to gain his Associate’s Degree in 1976 from Wentworth Military Academy where he had a basketball scholarship. After graduation, he went on to further his education by attending Central Missouri State University (CMSU) where he was a member of the fraternity Phi Beta Sigma. He completed his education later by attending Calvary Baptist Seminary, Kansas City, MO, where he graduated with a B.A. Degree in Theology and Business Administration. On June 6, 1981 Kenny married Cynthia Inez Hawkins in Lexington, MO. They made their home in Odessa, MO. To this union two sons were born, Scott Irvin and Norman Isaiah.

After being chosen by God, he began his life in the ministry. Kenny became an Ordained Deacon in 1993. After his committed performance was proved, he went on to start studying and attending a school for Ministry. He was ordained as a Minister in 1995. Kenny then went on to his higher calling as Pastor of the Second Missionary Baptist Church, Odessa, MO. He was installed by Pastor Desmond C. Lamb, of Forest Grove Baptist Church, Kansas City, MO.

Kenny worked at various jobs throughout his life; Guys Snack Foods in Liberty, MO, Dobbs Foods at the Kansas City Airport, and the Odessa R-7 School District in maintenance where he retired due to his health. When asked “why maintenance?” he would say “it keeps me Humble”. Kenny was also a member of the Odessa Cemetery Board, the Odessa Parks and Recreation Board, and the Odessa Ministerial Alliance. In addition to spending time with his family and friends, he loved sharing the love of God, playing basketball, grilling, and watching sporting events.

In addition to his loving wife of 34 years, Kenny is survived by his 2 children, Scott Irvin Bass of Raymore, MO and Norman Isaiah Bass and wife Jessica of Odessa, MO; five grandchildren; one brother, Harold W. Bass of Odessa, MO; two sisters, Arluster M. Bass and Dian L. Bass of Odessa, MO; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norman E. Bass.
