Miriam Lucine (McCoy) Bannister Cox, 91 of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Wednesday July 12, 2017 at home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday July 16, 2017 at the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 12507 Mt. Tabor Rd., Odessa, MO, 64076 with Reverend John Churchill officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday July 16, 2017 at the church. Burial will follow at 5:15 p.m., Sunday July 16, 2017 at the Anna-Edna Cemetery in Jerico Springs, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Heart of America, Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 West 75th St, Shawnee Mission, KS 66208. Miriam was born on October 15, 1925 in rural Odessa, MO to Thomas Warren and Ann Lucinda (Wilcoxon) McCoy. She graduated in 1943 from William Chrisman High School in Independence, MO. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with a Major in Art with a Minor in Music, from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO. On July 29, 1947 she married Leo Martin Bannister in Odessa, MO. He precede her in death. On September 21, 1966 she married Clifford Oscar Cox in Grandview, MO and he preceded her in death. Miriam retired from the Odessa School District as an Art Teacher in the mid 1980’s. She was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. Miriam was a member of the Mt. Tabor Ladies Aid. In addition to spending time with her family and friends she enjoyed art, painting, sewing and baking.
Survivors include six children, Beverly McCulloch and husband Ron of Plattsburg, MO, Bruce Bannister of Odessa, MO, Frank Bannister and wife Karen of Gardner, Kansas, Joanna Wilson and husband Jack of Tontitown, Arkansas, Alvena Baxter of Emporia, KS and Alvin Cox and wife Gaye of Mayview, MO; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild; two brothers, John Daniel McCoy of Olathe, KS and William “Bill” McCoy of Centerview, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, first and second husband, Miriam was preceded in death by a sister Dorris Willard and a grandson, Travis McCulloch.
