Travis R. Sanders, 86, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on Sunday March 5, 2017, at his home.
The family will host a Celebration of Life from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Berry Acres, 6825 N. Highway 131, Odessa, MO, 64076. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care or Greenton Cemetery Association. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Born October 3, 1930, in Wakenda, he was the son of Harry Winston and Geneva Ann Wilson Sanders.
He was a 1948 graduate of Wakenda High School.
A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was inducted March 25, 1952, and received an honorable discharge March 15, 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with two devices and the United Nations Service Medal. He served in the Marine Corps Reserve from March 15, 1954 - March 24, 1960.
On July 21, 1956, he married Sandra Sue Burgess in Independence.
He was employed with Missouri Gas Energy, Independence, for 34 years.
He was a member of Woods Chapel Methodist Church.
A son, Charles B. Sanders on July 15, 1981, a brother, Lynn D. Sanders on October 31, 2013, and a son-in-law, Russell Scrutchfield on May 7, 2016, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Robin Scrutchfield, Centerview, Ronda and Mike Westerheid, Kansas City; three sisters, Janis Cowick, Independence, Judy Bruce, Bosworth, Vickie Sowers, St. Peters; and five grandchildren and spouses, David and Lisa Hamilton, Warrensburg, Megan and Jared Coffey, Centerview, Hannah Jo Scrutchfield and fiancé, Eric Cochron, Holden, Amanda Westerheid and fiancé, Billy Ennis, San Antonio, Tex., Kyle and Hannah Jo Westerheid, El Paso, Tex.; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Chance, Alyssa and Charles Hamilton, and Hayden Westerheid.
